New Album Underway
New Album

I have a new album underway that hopefully will see a release this year. The songs have been written over a period of a few years in my spare time. Rough demos with myself playing all of the instruments and doing drum programming have been recorded onto Logic Pro at home ready to take into a studio.

I also released an album that I recorded at home way back in 2017 and then a single in 2019. However these was never taken into a studio so are in a very rough demo format. This album / single was a test to see how easy or difficult the process was of releasing an album / single to the world. The album was not given the time it should have been given. Some of the tracks on there are old Full Confession tracks a band I had played with early in my career.

New Album

My plan was always to do an new album worth of material that I would be happy with. Just before the pandemic hit I had contacted Mark Stuart at Mad Hat Studios. Having worked with Mark with previous bands. Mark was always going to be my first call for this project. Due to the pandemic the project was put on the shelf. This did allow me more time though to plan for the project and write more songs.

Action

A few weeks ago I again contacted Mark and we had a meeting to discuss the project. I played him some of the tracks and had a good catch up. The 1st studio date was 18th August 2022. The tracks were then transfered form Logic Pro to Pro Tools. This is the software used for recording in most professional recording studios. Once all the tracks were transfered over they had to be alligned in Pro Tools. On this album I have used my keyboard more heavily for string, piano and brass instruments.

New Recording Techniques

It has been over 10 years since I last did a studio recording. That was with Kick Up The 80’s. The instruments back then were recorded in this order. Drums, Bass, Guitar, Keyboards, Lead Vocal, Backing Vocals. Time was spent getting the best sound possible from each instrument before recording.

Things have now changed. You can now change the MIDI keyboard sounds as many times as you like after recording. The Bass and Guitar can also be whats called Re-amped. This is where after recording the sounds can still be changed. I am using my Kemper for this.

Re-amping

I went into the studio for my second day on 30 August 2022. We continued to realign tracks transfered from Logic Pro and also started with the reamping of guitars. One of the tracks I recorded at home I had used a harmonizer effect on the guitar. This section was re-recorded with me playing the harmonies in the studio.

The next studio date I have is 12th September 2022. The plan is to work with Sheena on continuing to re-amp guitars and also work on string arrangements. Mark is on tour with Magnum for this session.

For those who are intrested I will be keeping you up to date in the news section of my website as things unfold.
